1. Reception via NOAA-Weather Satellites

Here we introduce our solution for the reception of the orbiting NOAA weather satellites as an ideal supplement on board!

The NOAA weather satellites NOAA-15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 perform an orbit around the globe within 90 minutes. By the programmed offset of the path, every part of the world will be overflown. Where ever you are: You will always get the current top-view of your location! For example at the lower picture on the right-hand side you see such a top-view picture of Europe in artificial colors. The right picture above shows the sector of NOAA-15 and 17. The pictures will be transmitted in black and white, where the delivered software is processing them, depending on the requirements of the user. 

For that we offer our robust and durable sat-receiver with an antenna diversity feature for a very affordable price. The FM receiver was specially developed for the reception of the orbiting weather satellites, which are operating on 137 Mhz. It has 6 channels, which can be changed by pressing a push-button at the front panel. The channels are already pre-programmed with NOAA channels currently being used, but may be alterated also, if desired. In order to that, there is serial COM port implemented.

The receiver has a very high sensitivity, so that even very smal and simples antennas can be used and also no pre-amplifier is needed. A feature, what one could not find at receivers in that price level is the antenna-diversity, what means, that the user can connect 2 antennas, whereas always the one will be selected, which delivers the best signal. 

In that way possible fading of the signal will be eliminated, which may appear during the satellite is flying over your location. A high linearity of the demodulator paired with an excellent frequency accuracy and optimized filters are ascertaining a very high quality of the pictures. 

The receiver has an AFC functionality, which compensates the doppler-offset of the receiving frequency, which will occur, when the satellite is ascending or descending.

Additionally the receiver may also operate in scan-mode, where 5 channels will be scanned. If a signal is present on a certain channel, it will stop and the recording will take place. 

A 12V- power supply is included, which delivers the power for the receiver; anyway, it is also possible, to supply the power directly out of the board PC. 

If a pre-amplifier shall be deployed, elictrical power can be delivered in a way of remote power suppy via the coax cable. This mode can be turned on or off by the user.

The HF isolating housing made of Aluminum has the very small dimensions of 113 x 8 x 31 mm, which will reject local influences.

Suitable antenna solutions are listed below:

- Stationary roof antenna for operations at home or in an office 
- Marine-antenna for ship operation (Helical-Antenna)
- Use of the present VHF antenna combined with a splitter
- Horizontal dipole, additional to the VHF antenna in diversity-mode

Die Empfangsantennen sollten dabei möglichst frei stehen.


 

2. Reception on HF/MF Bands (Terrestrial)

 

Bonito MeteoJet - Marine Version

The new MeteoJet receiver is the latest development of Bonito and is not only directed to those, who are not equipped with an HF e-mail- system, in order to receive weather information via their network operators or service providers.  It is also recommended for those users, who want to have a redundant weather reception system or who don´t want to block the HF/MF main radio for weather reception tasks. 
 
TheMeteoJet receiver uses the latest receiving technology and is a first class computer-based receiver. The signal is directly processed with the BONITO software (MeteoCom 6, ProMeteo2).
 
From 40 kHz to 30 MHz, the receiver can be tuned with an accuracy of 1 Hz. The extremely good sensitivity was optimized even more so that good reception is guaranteed with even relatively short antennas. Because of its high overload capacity, the BONITO MeteoJet receiver is an ideal basis for reliable and automatic reception.

The receiver comes in a small housing and is connected to a PC (not supplied) via USB and is directly supplied with voltage. A BNC connector is on the rear of the housing.
 
Because the BONITO MeteoJet is a so-called IF receiver, the decoding of maritime signals is no problem whatsoever. The digitalized signal is processed from the very beginning. Thus data can be decoded easily and new modes can be added with an update. By decoding weather faxes, Navtex and RTTY directly, a much better quality is the result. Additionally, the digital signal filtering has the advantage that even distorted or weak signals can still be decoded very well.

On board, you need almost no room to install the MeteoJet. There is only one USB cable required, which also supplies the radio with voltage. An additional power supply is not necessary. The BONITO MeteoJet works with third party software as well. 
 
The MeteoJet is specially adapted for maritime use, therefore the frame is sealed with four layers of special lacquer to withstand the salty air at sea.
